Declan left his suitcase near the front door, glanced around the apartment and he soon figured out the guerrilla knitter thing. Lamps were wrapped in multi-coloured knitted cosies, knitted wall hangings decorated every spare inch of space, even a knitted plant holder sat on the coffee table, a wilting fern almost hidden inside it. A small silver Christmas tree sat on the kitchen counter, covered in knitted decorations. Guerrilla knitting, indeed.

Yuki ushered him over to a big blue sofa, and he followed her, watching as the fabric of the t-shirt she wore swayed when she walked. It barely covered her round little bottom. He swallowed, hard.

He sat on one end of the sofa, and he thought she'd stick to the other end. But she sat only a couple of inches away. Her bare thighs taunted him, daring him to touch.

He cleared his throat. "I got your letter." He held up his palm, so she could see the sparkles clinging to his skin. He was ridiculously nervous, and his hand shook.

She laughed, and pressed her hand to his, threaded their fingers together. He let out a long breath.

"Yuki, I—"

"Declan, I meant—"

He laughed, and she did too. The ice was broken.

"You go first," he said, watching her face go soft, a gentle expression of...love? Caring, at least.

She let her words come out in a great rush. "I meant to tell you how much I already care about you. But then, I thought I was going to lose my job, and I panicked. It was all too much, all at once. I really wanted to spend more time with you."

Declan lifted her hand to his mouth and kissed the back of her hand, and something inside him relaxed when he heard her sigh. "Did you actually lose your job? Because I'd feel terrible about that."

She let a quasi-smile cross her face, one dimple creasing her cheek. "Yes. But it's okay now. I didn't get a chance to tell you, I interviewed for another job a few weeks ago. Actually, it was three interviews, and I thought I must be on the shortlist. I got it! I just found out this afternoon."

He watched her eyes, lit up with excitement. "That's grand. Tell me about it." He half listened to her answer, all the while watching her lips.

"I'm going to be a flight attendant with Mermaid Airlines! You know, the funnest airline in the world. It's so exciting because I've always wanted to travel, but I haven't been anywhere except here, and Japan and Singapore with my family when I was a kid. So anyway, I have to fly out in a few days for training, in London!"

"London? But I thought...I thought you'd be living here." He held his breath, waiting for what she'd say next.

Yuki pushed her loose hair back behind her ear. "It's only for a couple of weeks. They want me back in Melbourne as my home base, as well as flying to lots of cool places. But I'd love to move to London one day.
